Fibre-Reinforce Polymer Bars now covered by ACRS Product Certification Scheme

After requests from the specifiers and end users, particularly infrastructure asset owners, ACRS has expanded its certified products to include fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) rebar (reinforcing bar) manufactured in accordance with AS5203 to be covered under its Product Certification Scheme. ACRS anticipates applications from producers around the world. Once certified, these producers will be listed online in the certification holder database, and visible in the ACRS Cloud app. To find certified suppliers, continue to check the database.

FRP is by no means a replacement for steel: while the strength can be markedly higher, lower ductility and lower thermal properties restrict its uses. But under specific conditions, fibre can be a preferential option – including being lighter, non-corrosive, and with more than double the tensile strength of steel. In uses in coastal regions and for scientific equipment, FRP can be better fit-for purpose given that its high resistance to corrosion, non-conductive and non-magnetic properties.
